Digital Government: Various options for scholarships for UAE national students

Abdallah Shahin - | UAE

According to the Digital Government, numerous government agencies offer scholarships to Emirati citizens, both domestically and internationally, under specific conditions. The report examines six government programs that provide university scholarships and grants, which are administered by the Ministry of Education, the Scholarships Office - Presidential Office, and the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi. The entities involved include the Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, the Ministry of Finance, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre.

The report mentioned that the Ministry of Education offers external scholarships to academically exceptional Emirati students. These scholarships allow students to pursue their university and postgraduate studies in internationally renowned universities outside the country. The Ministry considers the community's demand for academic and professional specializations that are not currently available in local colleges and universities.

The report outlines the eligibility criteria for the scholarship, which include the following: the student must be a citizen of the United Arab Emirates, have good conduct, maintain a cumulative average of at least "very good" in their previous qualification, and achieve the required score in one of the language exams that qualifies them for study. The scholarship offered by the Ministry requires applicants to possess a specific academic degree and specialism from a recognized higher education institution.

Scholarships are open to the following groups: undergraduate students, postgraduate students, self-funded students, scholarship applicants, exceptional students, and employed students. Students can access the Ministry of Education's website to review information about the overseas scholarship granting service and the conditions for applying for scholarships.

The Digital Government report revealed that the Office of Scholarships, which falls under the Presidential Office, has the objective of identifying exceptional Emirati students who have excelled in their academic pursuits. These students are then awarded scholarships to renowned local and international universities, enabling them to specialize in diverse fields. The office oversees the administration of scholarships both abroad and domestically.

The Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi offers exceptional educational opportunities for Emirati students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, allowing them to pursue undergraduate programs at renowned worldwide universities. The intended audience comprises twelfth-grade students and students currently pursuing a bachelor's degree at a foreign university.

The Communications and Information Technology Sector Development Fund, which is associated with the Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, offers scholarships to Emirati citizens through the "Bisha" program. This program aims to support and develop highly skilled national individuals in fields related to the communications and information technology sector.

According to the Digital Government report, the Fund allocated significant funds to the Mission Program, which provided hundreds of academic seats for bachelor's and master's degrees in prestigious universities in the United States of America, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

The Ministry of Finance has initiated the Masar University Scholarship Program to attract and support high school graduates, both male and female, who are citizens of the country. The program aims to enable them to pursue academic degrees in financial and accounting studies, as well as other specialized fields, at the most reputable accredited universities in the country. The ultimate goal is to recruit these graduates to work within the Ministry of Finance.

The "Go" program offered by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center offers assistance to high school graduates who intend to further their studies in the fields of science and engineering.

The program's objective is to augment the quantity of Emirati engineers and improve their expertise and competencies, with the ultimate goal of boosting productivity and making a valuable contribution to the development of the knowledge economy.

To apply for the program, please submit your CV and the necessary documentation to the following email address: [email protected].
