New Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programs will be offered at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Abu Dhabi (IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi), the first international campus of IIT Delhi.

Inauguration of New BTech Programs

Following the inauguration of the master’s program in Energy Transition and Sustainability (ETS) in January 2024, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Abu Dhabi (IIT Delhi-AAbu Dhabi), the first international campus of IIT Delhi, has announced its inaugural Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programs. The initial offerings include a BTech in Energy Engineering and a BTech in Computer Science.

The BTech in Energy Engineering program, with a focus on sustainability, encompasses various engineering verticals to cater to different interests and aims to address contemporary challenges in energy production and management. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of sustainable energy solutions, preparing them to contribute effectively to the field.

Meanwhile, the BTech in Computer Science and Engineering program emphasizes artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to equip students with proficiency in abstraction, computational thinking, and problem-solving techniques. This program aims to develop experts who can drive advancements in the digital age and contribute to various industries, from analytics and finance to cryptography and information technology.

Registration and Academic Year Timeline

For the first class, there are a total of 60 slots available, 30 in each program. In 2024, two exams, the Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced), will be used to determine admissions. In order to prepare undergraduates to address energy concerns, influence the future of technology, and create ground-breaking software, these programs provide a wealth of information and practical experience.

Registration for the academic year 2024-2025 is open until June 3, 2024, with the programs commencing in September 2024. The launch of these undergraduate programs follows the successful introduction of the ETS master’s program earlier in the year. Students accepted into the BTech programs will embark on a four-year educational journey at IIT Delhi, Abu Dhabi. The campus features specialized research centers focusing on sustainable energy, climate studies, computing, and data sciences. The BTech courses will be taught by local experts and seconded faculty from IIT Delhi, ensuring a high standard of education.

Graduates of IIT Delhi-AAbu Dhabi will join a vast alumni network that spans 23 campuses across India. The establishment of the Abu Dhabi campus resulted from a partnership signed by the Ministry of Education, India, IIT Delhi, and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) in July 2023.

Dr. Ahmed Sultan Alshoaibi, Acting Executive Director of the Higher Education Sector at ADEK, underscored the importance of technology and engineering in driving future economic growth. He emphasized that undergraduate programs are designed to initiate substantial changes both within the UAE and globally. This strategy aims to prepare the future workforce with the essential skills needed to address and solve complex issues, leading the way towards a more intelligent and resilient world.

Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director at IIT Delhi, affirmed the campus's dedication to delivering a transformative educational experience. He noted that the new Abu Dhabi campus will blend the rigorous academic standards of IIT Delhi with a rich campus life and individualized attention, enabling students to thrive. This approach is intended to provide a transformative educational experience and equip students with the skills necessary for global leadership roles in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence, digitalization, and sustainable energy.

The launch of IIT Delhi-AAbu Dhabi’s BTech programs represents a significant step towards fostering educational excellence and innovation. These programs are designed to prepare students for leadership roles in critical fields, driving technological and sustainable advancements in the UAE and beyond.
