Abu Dhabi is gearing up for the fifth annual ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, which is set to attract a record-breaking 25,000 competitors representing 168 different nations.
The Abu Dhabi Sports Council and ADNOC-hosted marathon has grown into a major event in the Middle Eastern marathon circuit, with a prize pool of $303,000.
City Roads to Close for the Marathon Route
To facilitate the extensive marathon route that passes through the city's major landmarks, several roads will be closed between midnight and 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 16. Notable closures include parts of King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street, Corniche Street, and Sheikh Rashid Bin Saaed Street.
Elite Athletes and Marathon Highlights
Notable names among the best racers competing in this year's marathon include Ilham Tanui Ozbilen of Kenya, Emily Kipchumba of Uganda, and Andrew Kwemoi of Uganda, who won the 2023 Milano Marathon. The marathon course takes runners on a beautiful loop around Abu Dhabi, passing by such famous sites as the World Trade Centre, Al Hosn Palace, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and ADNOC headquarters.

Leading up to race day, the Marathon Village at the ADNOC Campus, open from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., promises an immersive experience for visitors. The village, accessible and free to enter, offers entertainment, diverse food options, activations, and various services, enhancing the overall marathon experience for participants and spectators alike.
