The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has a labour law that outlines the circumstances under which it is acceptable to hold more than one part-time job.
According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Employment, only those who are at least 18 years old are eligible for part-time work permits.
The contract for part-time work in the United Arab Emirates
The provisions of Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Employment Relations, the Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022 on the Implementation of Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 Regarding the Regulation of Employment Relations, and Administrative Resolution No. 38 of 2022 Concerning the Guidelines for Implementing Ministerial Resolution No. 46 of 2022 regarding Work Permits, Offer Letters, and Employment Contract Forms are applicable. All of these resolutions were passed in 2022.
Permit to work part-time in the United Arab Emirates
An employee who is in possession of a work permit for part-time employment in the United Arab Emirates is permitted to work for more than one employer. In line with the requirements of Article 7(1)(b) of the Employment Law, which, when read in conjunction with Article 6(1)(f) of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022, provides that "subject to the provisions of Article 7 of the Decree Law, the categories of work permits shall be specified as follows:
A part-time work permit is a sort of permit that enables businesses that are registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Employment to hire an employee on a part-time contract.
According to this type of permit, the employee's working hours or working days are lower than those of his full-time colleagues. The Ministry must first grant permission for the employee to work for more than one employer before the employee is allowed to do so.
In addition, Administrative Resolution No. 38 of 2022 outlines the parameters and processes that must be followed in order to get work permits in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including licences for part-time work that are provided by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE). According to Administrative Resolution No. 38 of 2022, the Ministry of Human Resources and Employment (MoHRE) typically issues work permits for part-time employment for a period of one year. Some requirements include a clear copy of a white-background photograph, a copy of a passport that is valid for at least six months, a signed employment contract from the Ministry of Human Resources and Employment (MoHRE) that includes the signatures of both the employee and the employer, and academic credentials that have received proper attestations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation in the United Arab Emirates based on pertinent skill levels.
The requirements that must be met in order to obtain a work permit for part-time employment in the United Arab Emirates
The terms and conditions that must be met in order for the Ministry of Human Resources and Employment (MoHRE) to issue a part-time work permit in accordance with Administrative Resolution No. 38 of 2022 may include, but are not limited to, the following: The minimum age of an employee must be 18 years old; the employee's designation must be appropriate for the activity of the employer; the employee must have a UAE residency visa; and the employer's licence must be completely valid and free of an violations.
