The Abu Dhabi Media Office announced today, Tuesday, that the name of Abu Dhabi International Airport has been changed to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in accordance with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State.
The name of Abu Dhabi Airport is set to be changed to Zayed Airport on February 9, 2024, "in conjunction with the official opening ceremony of the new Terminal A," according to the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office. The deluxe station will be operational today, November 1.
The modification occurs before Building A becomes operational.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also authorized the new airport name change prior to the opening of the new Terminal A at Abu Dhabi Airport.
The new center had its first visitors on Tuesday, when Etihad Airways flew a commercial aircraft to India. Flight EY224 from Abu Dhabi to New Delhi took off at 2.35pm from Terminal A with 359 passengers on board.
All airlines will only operate out of Terminal A.
For airlines, the first two weeks will be a transition period, with all terminals - A, 1, 2, and 3 - operating simultaneously. Beginning November 14, all airlines will operate solely out of Terminal A.
Beginning November 9, Etihad Airways will gradually relocate its flights to Terminal A. From November 9 to November 14, the firm will operate from Terminals A and 3. Beginning on November 14, at 11 a.m., the business will operate all flights from the new hub.
The airport has an area of 742 thousand square meters.
It is worth noting that the airport covers an area of 742 thousand square meters and has a capacity of 45 million passengers per year. When fully operational, 28 airlines will operate from Terminal A, covering a global network of 117 destinations.
