New conditions for the sale of nutritional supplements and painkillers in the Emirates, The Ministry of Health and Community Protection has established measures to oversee the sale, display, storage, and circulation of medical products such as painkillers and nutritional supplements that are supplied without a prescription in non-pharmaceutical institutions.
The regulations included the requirement to purchase the medical product from a licenced medical warehouse that has the Ministry's approval, is categorised as a medical product, and is given without a prescription, and to store and display it in authorised areas.
In particular, the Ministry permitted the sale, display, and storage of medical products sold without a prescription in non-pharmaceutical establishments subject to local inspection and control authorities in each emirate, such as hypermarkets, supermarkets, stores selling nutritional supplements, sales outlets at petrol stations, and any other entity. Others were issued as a result of the Minister's decision.
Non-pharmaceutical establishments were barred from selling, displaying, or keeping any medical products that required a prescription to be administered, as well as any other medical products that did not fall into the categories mentioned in the list.

According to a recent decision issued by the Minister of Health and Community Protection, Abdul Rahman Al Owais, the Ministry's Drug Administration is in charge of making changes to it, whether by addition or deletion, in collaboration with the necessary health and local authorities. Non-pharmaceutical establishments that want to sell medical products dispensed without a prescription must purchase them from a licenced medical warehouse and store and display them in places designated for them, in accordance with the approved storage conditions for these products. In addition to the obligation to place the agent's label on the packages in accordance with the approved rules in this regard, a system for measuring temperature and humidity in places designated for storing and displaying medical products must be provided, provided that it is calibrated on a regular basis by one of the country's approved authorities.
To allow the sale, display, storage, and circulation of medical products covered by the decision, the Ministry required obtaining approval from the facility licencing authority, as well as keeping a copy of the approval issued by the non-pharmaceutical facility licencing authority included in the scope of its application.
Concerning oversight and inspection of the facilities included in the decision, the Ministry has subjected them to the supervision of competent local authorities, who may seek the assistance of health authorities if necessary in cases involving the circulation of medical products dispensed without a prescription and permitted to be sold in these facilities.
Antimicrobials, skin protection products, first aid, mouth, teeth, and gum cleansers, analgesics, particularly for internal ailments, salts, effervescent and oils, and nose, ear, and throat products are among the medical items available without a prescription in Dubai. It also covers general medical devices, vitamins, and goods that aid in the nourishment of youngsters.
