The emirates announces fine of 50,000 dirhams for crossing a red light
According to the announcement made by the Dubai Police Department, the reckless drivers who run red lights will be subject to a substantial fine. The institution in charge of enforcing the law has threatened to issue a large fine of up to 50,000 UAE dirhams.
The Dubai Police have informed that this fee has already entered into force and will be enforced immediately on violators who were filmed by cameras on the highways. The effective date for this fine was July 6, and it will be imposed directly on violators.
It is interesting that the police department issued a series of video clips on its official Twitter account, showing a small truck hitting with the back of a motorbike delivery driver because the car driver failed to slow down despite the red light. The incident is depicted in the videos.
The video that was released by the police shows another incident in which a motorist runs a red light at a crossing, forcing a cyclist to slam on his brakes and sending him flying over his handlebars.
According to data obtained from the Dubai Police Department in 2022, an average of ninety drivers were pulled over each day for running red lights.
If a driver is detected going through a red light, the police will take their vehicle away from them immediately. After 30 days, returning it will cost them 50,000 dirhams, and there is a possibility that they will have to pay additional fines.
Additionally, twelve black points will be added to their license, bringing the total number of points allowed to 24.
According to statistics that were released by the Dubai Police earlier this year, there were 23 fatalities, 348 traffic accidents, and 211 injuries that resulted from drivers disregarding red lights between the years 2019 and 2022.
Because drivers in the emirate ignored the red light, more than 855 vehicles were taken into impound during that time period.
In the year 2020, Abu Dhabi was the first city to implement a penalty of 50,000 dirhams.
