Dubai's "Golden Chance" for Direct Driving License

Under the Golden Chance program, drivers are required to pass a theory test and a road test to obtain a UAE driving license for light motor vehicles. Both tests must be successfully completed in one attempt.

Theory Test:

The theory test assesses applicants' understanding of driving and traffic regulations. It presents various driving scenarios and evaluates how the applicant would respond in each situation. Questions may cover topics such as recognizing roadway risks, understanding different traffic signals and road signs, and interpreting their meanings.

Road Test:

The road test involves taking a vehicle onto the streets under the supervision of an instructor. The applicant is instructed to drive on regular roads alongside other vehicles, perform maneuvers like right turns, left turns, and U-turns.

Optional Practical Training:

While taking the 'Golden Chance' test, drivers have the option to undergo practical road test training before attempting the direct road test. The fee for this optional training is AED 210 + VAT per hour.

Eye Test Requirement:

Before proceeding with the tests, drivers are required to undergo an eye test at any registered optical shop in the UAE.

License Duration:

Successful completion of the 'Golden Chance' test leads to a two-year driving license, which can be renewed for up to five years.

Failing the Test:

In the event of failing the 'Golden Chance' test, applicants will need to revert to the standard licensing process and enroll in regular driving classes.

Cost of the Golden Chance License:

The approximate cost of the 'Golden Chance' driving license is AED 2,000, encompassing expenses related to file opening, tests, and the issuance of the license. Please note that the final price may fluctuate depending on specific license requirements and the selection of RTA-approved driving schools in Dubai.

Eligibility Check:

To find out if you are eligible for the "Golden Chance" Test, go to the RTA's official website and click on the "Services" link. Then, choose "Apply for a New Driving License by Exchanging Existing Licenses." Give your contact information and data about your prior license. You have two options if your country's license is not automatically convertible to a UAE license: you can take the "Golden Chance" test or go through the usual procedure, which involves taking driving lectures, practical sessions, and tests.

Application Process:

Applying for the 'Golden Chance' driving license test can be done through various methods:

  1. Apply through RTA's official website.
  2. Register at any RTA customer happiness center.
  3. Register at the vehicle registration and testing center at Hatta Tasjeel.
  4. Register through RTA-approved driving schools in Dubai.
