Dubai Airport announces new restrictions on passengers

Dubai Airport authorities announced some restrictions for non-travelers in July and August.

Airport authorities have announced some restrictions for non-travelers as Dubai International Airport prepares for the summer holiday travel season from July 6 to 17. Schools in the UAE remain closed in July and August, making it the most popular time of year to travel for families.

As was the case before the Eid al-Adha travel season, only passengers will be allowed to enter the stations during peak periods. The authorities advised those who say goodbye to travelers at the airport to see them off at their homes.

In addition, access to the arrivals aprons at both Terminals 1 and 3 is restricted to public transport and airport-licensed vehicles only.

Dubai International Airport is expected to witness a “significant increase” in passenger traffic from July 6 to 17, with the total number of passengers arriving and departing through the airport terminals expected to reach 3.3 million. It is expected that 914,000 passengers will leave Dubai International Airport during this period.

Passenger numbers are expected to peak during the weekend of July 12–14, when Dubai International Airport will receive 840,000 passengers, representing its busiest weekend. July 13 is expected to be the busiest day, with 286,000 passengers expected. On average, the airport will handle about 274,000 passengers per day during the peak period.

Flydubai advises its passengers to arrive at least four hours before the departure time, while passengers traveling with other airlines should arrive at Dubai International Airport “at least three hours before” the scheduled departure time.

This summer is expected to be exceptionally busy, with dnata Travel announcing a 35% increase in bookings for international travel during July and August, compared to the same months last year.

Emirates Airlines earlier called on passengers to prepare for additional traffic congestion on the roads leading to the airport.

Dubai Airports, which operates Dubai International Airport, advised travelers to “Use the Dubai Metro to get to and from the airport and between Terminals 1 and 3 to avoid traffic congestion.”

“We advise all travelers to allow extra time for check-in, security screening, and boarding procedures to ensure a smooth journey.”

Other travel advice provided by the airport operator includes the following:

Learn about your airline's baggage allowance and packing rules.

Avoid last-minute surprises by checking in in advance.

Save time during the security check by being prepared. Place metal items—a watch, jewelry, cell phone, coins, and a and a belt—iin your carry-on bag and follow directions for carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels.

Families with children over 12 years old can speed up the passport control process with smart gates.

Remember to pack spare batteries and power banks in your handbag.
