The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Tuesday that motorists wishing to obtain a professional driving licence in Dubai will no longer have to wait twenty-four hours, but will instead be able to do so instantly online.
"Expediting the procedure is part of RTA's digital transformation strategy for permits," remarked Sultan Al Akraf, head of driver affairs at RTA's Public Transport Agency. "The initiative will benefit taxi drivers, luxury vehicle drivers, and school bus drivers," he added.
How do I submit my application for the permit?
- On the RTA website, the related company must submit an application for a permit and then pay the associated charge.
- Installing the Dubai Drive app on a smart device and completing the pre-registration process within the app are both requirements for drivers.
- The motorist is able to instantaneously receive the digital permit through the RTA-Dubai Drive app, which is available on all different types of smart devices, as soon as the linked company has finished the application procedures.
The purpose of the new digital passes
"The purpose of the new digital permits for practising professional passenger transport drivers (bus drivers, taxi drivers, and limousine chauffeurs) as well as school transport attendants is to bring happiness to customers by providing services that save them time and effort," says the author of the study that led to the development of the new permits. According to Al Akraf, "It enables them to have such permits issued via smart channels and obtain digital permits via the RTA-DUBAI DRIVE app on smartphones."
