GCAA Assures Readiness of UAE airports for COP28 attendees

Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), has affirmed the preparedness of the country's airports to welcome participants of COP28, scheduled at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023.

UAE Airports Ready for COP28

Al Suwaidi stressed the importance of the GCAA and the country's aviation industry being significant hosts of this international event. He emphasized the value of highlighting the UAE's achievements in the aviation industry.

In order to minimize emissions, he underlined the several international programs the UAE has established over the past ten years. The GCAA assembled a national team of crucial aviation industry partners to support the meeting and aid in the reduction of emissions.

The task force, comprising specialized units for media, operations, logistics, and aviation storytelling, was highlighted by Al Suwaidi.

As He also highlighted the GCAA's successful bid to host the third edition of the Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels in November. This significant global event addresses aviation's role in climate change and seeks to expedite the advancement of aviation fuel production techniques.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and "COP" debates have seen significant participation from the GCAA and the UAE's aviation team since 2010.

Al Suwaidi underscored the UAE's alignment with numerous ICAO resolutions centered on emission reduction objectives. The UAE actively engages in the ICAO's Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection, collaborating with over 700 global experts to establish legal frameworks, systems, and solutions for environmental sustainability, economic growth, and climate change mitigation.

Moreover, He concluded by mentioning the UAE's submission of a comprehensive "National Plan for Emission Reduction," which received commendation from the organization.
